Not only is Morena as sweet as they come, the restaurant is cute cozy and inviting. The food and deserts are phenomenal. I love empanadas so when I saw them on the menu I had to try. The beef empanada was excellent, possibly best I’ve had. The limoncello cake is also one of the Best I’ve ever had. I’ve bought two lemon cakes this week trying to find the perfect one and as they say the 3rd time is the charm. I highly recommend stopping in.
Overview
Walking into Morena's Cakes And More for the first time at 586 Avenue C SE, Winter Haven, FL 33881, United States felt less like visiting a business and more like being welcomed into someone’s kitchen. I stopped by on a weekday afternoon after hearing a few locals rave about their custom cakes, and the place was buzzing with quiet excitement-customers chatting, boxes being tied with ribbon, and the unmistakable smell of fresh buttercream in the air. That first impression matters, especially for a diner-style bakery where experience often counts as much as flavor.
What immediately stands out is how personal everything feels. The menu isn’t overwhelming, but it’s thoughtfully built around cakes, cupcakes, pastries, and classic desserts made to order. A staff member explained how most cakes are baked the same day they’re decorated, a process that lines up with best practices recommended by the American Culinary Federation, which emphasizes freshness and proper temperature control to preserve flavor and food safety. That attention to process shows in the final product. I tried a slice of vanilla cake with chocolate filling, and the texture was moist without being heavy, something professional bakers often attribute to precise mixing times and ingredient ratios.
From a professional standpoint, bakeries like this succeed because they balance creativity with consistency. According to a National Restaurant Association report, over 60% of customers return to a restaurant or bakery primarily because of consistent quality. Reviews around town echo that data. Several customers I spoke with mentioned ordering birthday and wedding cakes multiple times, which says a lot in a city with plenty of dessert options. One regular described the cakes as made with love, and while that sounds sentimental, it’s often code for careful craftsmanship and patience during preparation.
Another thing worth noting is how Morena’s Cakes And More handles customization. Custom orders can be tricky, but here the process is surprisingly smooth. Customers discuss flavors, fillings, and designs in advance, and the team offers suggestions based on experience rather than upselling. This aligns with guidance from culinary experts like Duff Goldman, who often emphasizes that listening to the client is just as important as technical skill when it comes to custom desserts. That mindset builds trust, especially for milestone events where expectations are high.
The location itself is simple and accessible, fitting comfortably into the Winter Haven neighborhood. While it’s not a full-service diner with tables and waitstaff, it functions perfectly as a takeout-focused bakery. For many people, that’s a plus. You come in, place your order, maybe browse photos of previous creations, and leave knowing exactly what you’re getting. Transparency like this contributes to trustworthiness, particularly when food allergies or dietary preferences come into play. Staff are upfront about ingredients, though it’s fair to note that highly specialized dietary options may be limited depending on availability.
Online and word-of-mouth reviews consistently highlight friendly service and dependable results. While no restaurant is perfect, and peak seasons can mean longer wait times for custom cakes, the business is clear about timelines and limitations. That honesty goes a long way. In an era where consumers value authenticity, places like this thrive by doing the basics exceptionally well and treating every order as important, whether it’s a single cupcake or a multi-tiered celebration cake.

We had a lovely time visiting here for cafe con Leche, and empanadas and tostadas on a Monday morning! This place is very cute!! Everything was absolutely delicious. Our service was prompt and friendly and Morena is a very lovely person herself.!! we will definitely be back!
Morena’s offers delicious food, baked goodies, and coffee beverages with love and the attention to detail that you’d expect from Michelin rated restaurants. Her food is fresh, perfectly seasoned, and made with the best quality ingredients. Her baked items are always scrumptious, and her coffee items (like a caramel Frappuccino) are unmatched! Her Cuban sandwiches are the best in Polk County. The chicken in red sauce and thin slices steak hot plates are among my favorite offerings. Morena treats everyone like family and once you’re a customer, you’re part of her heart. You won’t find someone who is more passionate about taking care of people than Morena! Check the webpage for the daily menu (including breakfast options) and for hours of operation.
We stumbled upon Morena’s Cakes & More, a true hidden gem, thanks to our daughter. They’ve been in business for about a year, but based on our experience, they’ll be here for the long haul! We started with the Cuban sandwich, and let me just say—this was hands-down the best Cuban sandwich we’ve had in Florida. Yes, we’ve been to Miami and tried plenty down there, but Morena’s version is unmatched. The balance of flavors and textures was perfection. Next, we sampled the chicken and beef empanadas, and they blew us away. The meat was seasoned so well that every bite was packed with flavor. Then came the pastelitos—both sweet and savory varieties—and wow. These might just become a new favorite treat for us. The coffee? Simply wonderful. Rich, smooth, and a perfect pairing for everything we tried. To top it all off, we couldn’t resist the flan and tres leches cake for dessert. Both were flawless, showcasing the skill and passion coming out of their kitchen. And here’s the kicker—this was just breakfast! Can you imagine how incredible lunch must be? If you’re in the area, you have to stop by Morena’s Cakes & More. It’s an experience you won’t want to miss. They truly know what they’re doing, and we can’t wait to come back for more!
I was looking for a good sandwich end up here for the first time…let me tell you cuban is 100/10. Delicious! Comes with a chip bag. $13 bucks, little overpriced but it tasted so good. Also ordered me a espresso w panna mmmmm just what I needed. The place is inviting, warm and pretty. And the service was good! Vey kind this girls! Loved it I’m definitely coming back
Really nice hospitality. Quiet location, and a nice little scenery within the establishment. The host was really nice and told us about the product she has. Overall friendly service.. With decent food. To be honest the chicken sandwich was basically a frozen pattie. Plantain chips were not fresh. And the coffee needs a little work. But that's just my opinion. Let me know what you think
Absolutely delicious!! Morena's Cakes and More is one of those small businesses your glad you took the time to stop in and check out. From the delicious drinks to the tasty sandwiches and pastries to the welcoming owner who does it all, this is type of local gem that we NEED to support in our community. Reasonably priced, delicious and welcoming, if you live or happen to be in and around Winter Haven and want a bite to eat or a place to chill for a minute, make sure to stop by and treat yourself to this local Cuban/Dominican cafe. You won't regret it!
I've visited here twice, lunch and breakfast. I took my husband here for breakfast when I saw they had posted Mallorca bread, sandwiches from PR that was our favorite on our visit to PR. I had ham and swiss on mine and my husband added an egg. The sandwich was huge and so yummy. I had lunch with my stepdaughter here....we came for empanadas and ended up eating lunch and taking bags of empanadas and pastilltos home. Both times I visited, they checked on us and made sure everything was good and if we needed anything. Great customer service. Such a cute little place, they've made the inside look cute. You do have to go outside around the block to use the restroom.
